Lesson learning outcomes:

●       Students will be able to express their emotional response to different types of music through movement.

●       Students will be able to verbalize their connections between their body, their emotions and the music.

Introduction ~1 min

Students will be reminded about emotions vocabulary, how emotions feel in your body and movement concepts.

 

Students will explore the connections between movement, emotions and music by moving freely to three different pieces of music. After each piece is played, the class will come together for a debrief.

 

Lesson outline:

Music piece #1 (happy/excited) ~1 min

●      Don’t Stop Me Now – Queen (34s-94s)

Music piece #2 (Intense) ~1 min

●      Fight Dance

●       How are you feeling?

●       How can you show me that feeling?

●       Find your own space, face the wall if you need to.

●       Do you want to move with me/a partner to start?

●       Try closing your eyes and moving in one spot.

●       Remember to breathe deeply through your nose

●       How did the music make you feel?

●       How did your body express that emotion through movement?

●       How did the music make you want to take up space? A lot of space, a little space, low space, high space? (link to movement concepts)

●       Did moving make you feel different?

●       Did you notice how your breath shifted the emotions in your body?

Assessment (What I am looking for to judge achievement of learning outcomes)

●      Students are able to identify and name emotions, movements and breathing patterns in connection to the music during the debrief time

●      Students will change their movement according to different music
